RACI matrix: who does it, who owns it
A task everyone owns is done by no one. A RACI matrix gives every task one accountable person — and shows who helps.
The RACI matrix is free in Free.
- Write the tasks of the project and the people.

The four letters
R (Responsible) does the work. A (Accountable) owns the result and signs it off — always one person. C (Consulted) is asked before the decision. I (Informed) is told after it.
Three common mistakes
Two A’s on one task mean nobody. No R means nobody does the work. Many C’s mean the decision takes weeks.
Questions
Can one person be both R and A?
Yes, in a small team that is usual. What matters is that there is one A.
What is RACI for in HR?
Hiring, onboarding, reviews, exits: wherever HR, the manager, finance and IT take part and each thinks the task is someone else’s.
