How to read the answers
  1. An exit survey is an anonymous version of the exit interview, a classic HR tool for finding the causes of turnover. PapaHR sends it automatically to people who are leaving. PapaHR counts favourable answers (4 and 5) per theme and shows how often each reason for leaving is named. If one reason gets more than a third of answers, that's your main leak — start there. Answers are anonymous: results appear from 3 answers, so look at a half-year or a full year.

Interview or anonymous survey

In a face-to-face meeting people often say “I found a better offer” and keep quiet about the manager. An anonymous survey gets a more honest answer. Best of all is both: a short conversation about the handover and a survey about the reasons.

What to do with the answers

If one reason gets more than a third of the answers, that is your main leak — start there. If people leave because of the manager, run a 360 review for the managers people leave most often.

Questions

What questions should you ask in an exit interview?

About the manager (were they supportive, were they honest about the work), about conditions (pay, growth, workload), about the team, about the main reason for leaving and what could have made the person stay. The ready survey is above.

Are the answers anonymous?

Yes. The result is shown from 3 answers, so look at it over half a year or a year.

How much does it cost?

Surveys in PapaHR are in the free plan, for up to 25 employees.
